About Us

Thanks for stopping by Bikes Advisor! The site is broken into five main categories. Take a look at each of them and start with the one that helps you the most.

Why I Built This Site

I’ve been riding (bicycles) my entire life and am passionate about everything that comes along with it. I wouldn’t call myself a true “roadie”. I’m just a guy that loves riding because of the pure joy it brings.

Over the years, my friends have always come to me asking the different type of bike questions. They’ll ask things like, “Is that bicycle model worth the cost?”, or “What do you think about this fixe?”

For years, I was happy providing my answers to the people around me. Then, one of my closest friends suggested that I start a website to spread my knowledge. At first, the thought was terrifying because I had never built a website in my life.

Ironically, I turned to my friend for help with the website setup. After some initial trial and error, I’ve got a decent site built and I’m spreading the good word of my knowledge.

1. Cheap Road Bicycles

Road bike technology has come a long way in the past couple of decades. Nowadays, you’re able to find a quality road bicycle at an affordable price.

Owning a model for less than $1000 used to be impossible, but now road bicycles priced around $500 make a wonderful option.

Our top choice in this category is the Schwinn Phocus Drop Bar Road Bike.

2. Budget Mountain Bicycles

The same is true for mountain bikes: The quality has dramatically improved in the past couple of decades which has allowed many newcomers to join in on the fun.

While some mountain bicycles still bring along a high price tag, one can find a quality product for less than $1000. There are even great starter models for under $500.

Our top pick in this category is the SE Big Mountain 24-Speed D Mountain Bike.

3. Bicycle Computers

There’s nothing wrong with simply biking for fun, but you might be looking to take your cycling to the next level. In that case, you’re going to need a top rated cycling computer.

These devices have different feature sets, but most will track your distance. Keeping track of how far you’ve traveled is one of the best ways to improve.

Our top rated device in this category is the CatEye Velo 7.

4. Balance Bicycles

Don’t you wish you were a kid again? If you want to get your kid(s) started into bicycling then a balance bike is the way to go.

A balance bicycle allows a child to forget about the pedals and brakes. The main focus is to learn how to balance. Once they get the hang of it, they will be ready for a training version that has stabilizers.

Our top pick in this category is the Strider 12 Sports No-Pedal Balance Bicycle.

5. The Different Brands

Like any hobby, you’ll probably start off by only knowing a few of the major brands–and that’s okay. There are so many different bicycle brands out there and it can get overwhelming.

Some brands are better at making road bikes, while other specialize in the mountain style. Also, it’s important to note that not all bicycle brands operate online. Our top brands are hand analyzed with the Amazon shopper in mind.

The Confusion

There’s no hiding the fact that getting into bikes requires some learning. Like any hobby, the people inside love the idea that the general population can’t just “get in”. Unless you’ve got a ton of free time on your hands (I’m betting that isn’t the case) it’s going to be tough to become a biking expert overnight.

That’s where I come in. My goal is to break down the confusion that comes with making a purchase. If you’re a newbie (or even intermediate) then I strive to make your buying decision easier.

The Bikes Advisor reviews bicycles that are available for purchase online. The goal is to put the right one in your hands. My reviews are honest. I promise to call out the best and worst aspects of each product we review.

My Process

I spent about six hours a day reviewing different products. I haven’t owned every model out there! I read the majority of the Amazon reviews, as well as reviews from other websites.

There is no such thing as a perfect bicycle. I promise you’ll hear both the good and bad on each one.
